18 year old, Cadet Flight Sergeant Rhys Hill from Bridgend was the senior cadet supervising the collection by Air Cadets for Velindre Cancer Support at the recent Ospreys vs the Harlequins match, at the Riverside Hardware Brewery Field. Cadets from 1092 (Bridgend) Squadron, 293 (Cowbridge) Squadron and 2426 (Pencoed) Squadron took part in the collection. F/S Hill said, "The collection went well for all the cadets and staff that attended to help the Velindre Cancer Support. We all had a great time collecting and also watching the rugby match. Sadly the Harlequins won the match, but we still enjoyed every moment of it. It was also a good feeling to know we were helping others by doing what we were doing".

The Commanding Officer of 1092 Bridgend Squadron, Flt Lt Peter Meath, organised the collection after a phone call from a staff member at Velindre, asking if the cadets could raise money for them at the Ospreys rugby match in Bridgend. Peter said, "We joined forces with the two other Squadrons, 2426 (Pencoed) and 293 (Cowbridge), who accompanied us when we did the collection. We often work together. We collected a few hundred pounds on this occasion.

We feel that Velindre Cancer trust is an important charity as they helped a member of our staff, Carole Perrin, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. They looked after her up until she sadly passed away in September 2011." Steph Perrin, another member of the staff at Bridgend Squadron said, "The cadets felt that because my mother was a Civilian Instructor in the squadron, it would be nice to collect on her behalf and also on the behalf of an ex-cadet from our Squadron, Alicia Parsons, who is currently fighting a brain tumour. Alicia was a cadet on the squadron for several years until she had to retire due to her illness."
