Eastern sector was back in action again in Pencoed with representatives from 2426 (Pencoed), 1092 (Bridgend), 2117 (Aberkenfig) and 2347 (Porthcawl) squadrons turning up on a hot sunny day in July.

With 6 months of planning, the day was a success on all fronts with 2426 Squadron helping the organisers by providing 3 large tents for other community groups to use on the day, as well as staying in constant contact with the organisers to help organise the music and pass on their experience to get the procession organised with a minimum of fuss.

Wing headquarters showed their support for the event by supplying the wing recruitment trailer, with Wing Commander Stones and Squadron Leader Lewis both attending an the day to show their support.

Sgt ATC Burman (2426) who attended all the planning meetings and worked very closely with the event organizers said on the day " It just shows how versatile 3 Welsh Wing is, With RIAT, the Nijmegen March and RAF Henlow summer camp upon us we can still help out in the local community with support from across our area and our Wing."

After a 10 years without a carnival the event came back with a bang, with a colourful procession through the town Centre before a full day of displays and activities at the comprehensive school.

Organizers are hailing the event a resounding success.

The carnival procession, which featured the Air Training Corps lead by 2426 standard, carried by cadet Flt Sgt Alex Baldwin lead the procession, which also included Pencoed Baby and Toddler Group, a Tae Kwon Do group, a children’s jazz band, a Zumba party and the town’s primary schools, began at the Welfare Hall before turning Pencoed’s main street into a sea of colour and music.

Pencoed town Mayor, Councillor Richard Williams gave a speech paying tribute to the community spirit that was evident in both the planning and carrying out of the carnival.

The parade then marched on to the fields of Pencoed Comprehensive School where there were fairgrounds, bouncy castles, BBQ food, cake stalls, arts and crafts and a host of activities.

The cadets continued the hard work throughout the day helping with Selling raffle tickets and Programs to the attending masses.

The event also helped with recruiting, as several new cadets joined the ranks of 2426 squadron which made all the effort that went into the day mean so much more.
