This year’s annual Afan Argoed Challenge was a great success with 22 Squadrons represented and with more than 110 cadets and 40 staff.
This has been the largest competition ever, with it growing annually from the seven original Squadrons to todays impressive number.
The winners for this years event were;
1st - 948 (Haverfordwest) Squadron (pictured left) - Congratulations!!
2nd - 1284 (Tenby) Squadron
3rd - 334 (Neath) Squadron
Very well done and congratulations..!!

OC 3WW, Wg Cdr Mike Stones (pictured right), congratulated all the teams on their effort and paid tributes to the support staff for manning the check points and especially Sqn Ldr Lynn Jeremiah and Flt Lt John Joseph RET for the planning and running of this completion.

The competition is not just about walking a set distance but at every check point there were a number of challenges that the teams had to undertake, from first aid to aircraft recognition and much more in between. Cdt George Phillips of 1429 (Cardigan) Squadron said that “the completion was fun, I really liked the fact that there were not paths all the way. It was a great challenge”

The top three results were, 948 (Haverfordwest) Sqn with 122 points, second, 1284 (Tenby) Sqn with 100 points and in third place, 334 (Neath) Sqn with 99 points. 1092 (Bridgend) Sqn asked to field two teams but with only the ‘A’ team counting.

 If the ‘B’ team had been in the competition, they would have taken the silver medals with a score of 106.5 points.
