Deputy Lord Lieutenant Visits 948 (Haverfordwest) Squadron

The Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Dyfed, Colonel David Davies visited the Headquarters of 948 (Haverfordwest and City of St David’s) Squadron, Air Training Corps at the Dalton VC Centre in Haverfordwest to make a number of presentations to officers and cadets of the Squadron.

The parents of the cadets receiving the awards also attended the Squadron to see the presentations.

The Deputy Lord Lieutenant presented Flight Sergeant Rickard with his Flying Scholarship certificate. Flight Sergeant Rickard completed 14hours flying training at Aberdeen in order to gain the award.

Flight Sergeant Rickard has just completed his A Levels and is about to depart for Guyana to teach local children English before returning to the United Kingdom to attend university.

Corporal Daniel Jones was presented with his Gliding Certificate and Corporal Josh Davies with his Paragliding Certificate.

The Deputy Lord Lieutenant also presented Flight Lieutenant Clark, Pilot Officer Childs and Flight Sergeant Reeves with their Diamond Jubilee medals. To be eligible for the award adult volunteers have to have served in uniform in the Air Training Corps for five or more years.

Squadron Commander, Flight Lieutenant Andrew Clark, commented “I am delighted that we were able to celebrate the achievements of the cadets during the presentation evening and my thanks to the Deputy Lord Lieutenant for presenting the awards.”

“The aim of the Air Training Corps is to foster an interest in aviation in young people and there are opportunities available for cadets to go flying and gliding during their service including flying and gliding scholarships.”
