On Saturday 20th October Hunter Flying Ltd based at MOD St. Athan slide back its hanger’s doors to welcome RAF Air Cadets and Staff from Kenfig Hill, Porthcawl, Cowbridge and Pencoed. The visit was arranged by Sgt (ATC) Kevin Gould of 2117 Kenfig Hill Squadron.

John Sparks chief engineer, welcomed the cadets into the facility and two engineers showed them around the various aircraft which included a number of Hawker Hunters, the same type of aircraft that is the Squadron Gate Guard in Kenfig Hill.  Other highlights for the cadets was  the opportunity to look inside a number of the aircraft that are being restored at the facility which include four Czech built L-29 aircraft that will form a new air display team for next year and a rare Gannett XL500, that is on a two year rebuild to restore it to flying condition.

At the end of the tour, Instructor Staff Cadet Warrant Officer Nico Fitzgibbon presented a 2117 Kenfig Hill plaque to John Sparks.

The cadets were then taken to have a look at two Canadian water bombers parked outside another of the new companies at St Athan, Cardiff Aviation Ltd, a photo of which can be seen on the Squadrons Facebook page.
